The new Swedish fairway dues
 
The Swedish fairway dues are divided on in two parts, one fee based on the cargo quantity shipped and one fee based on vessels gross tonnage. Furthermore there is an environmental differentiation built into the fairway due system. 

Since 1st of April 2011 following regulations apply:  
 
On CARGO
 
Fairway due on cargo loaded or discharged  SEK 2,90 / MT
 
Except for low value cargoes such as sand, stone, gravel etc. SEK 0,80 / MT
 
On VESSELS GT

1.    one fee based on the vessels gross tonnage (GT)
o    reduction is possible, depending on nitrogen oxide emission NOx level
2.    one fee based on the vessels sulphur content (SOx) in its bunkers
o    reduction in fee is possible, depending on vessels SOx content in bunkers

Above due per GT may be reduced if vessels NOx emission level is lower
than 10 g / kWh. NO discount is granted without valid certificate from Swedish Maritime Inspectorate.

2. The sulphur related fairway due is based on the sulphur content in vessels bunkers. Normal the sulphur fee is SEK 0,70 (all type of vessels).
 
SOx reduction
The sulphur fee above mentioned, may be reduced if sulphur level in vessels bunkers are less than 0,50% by weight. NO discount is granted without valid certificate from Swedish Maritime Inspectorate.
 
Depending on the sulphur content, following fees are applicable:

NOTES:
  •  As per 1st of April 2008, also cruisers are obliged to pay the sulphur fee. Rebate for cruisers calling Sweden: Cruise vessels visiting multiple Swedish ports in sequence are only obliged to pay fairway dues on GT once, in first port of arrival.
  • The fairway dues are applicable on all vessels except those on voyage between Brofjorden / Gothenburg and the lake Vanern ports.
  • GT-based dues are debited only once if cargo to be discharged/loaded at more then one Swedish port or carried both ways. Max 2 times per calendar month and 24 times per calendar year.
  • Ship Owners are responsible for payment of both cargo and ship related fairway dues!
